IMDB rating: 6.30 Plot: A nebbish of a morgue attendant gets shunted back to the night shift where he is shackled with an obnoxious neophyte partner who dreams of the “one great idea” for success. His life takes a bizarre turn when a prostitute neighbour complains about the loss of her pimp. His partner, upon hearing the situation, suggests that they fill that opening themselves using the morgue at night as their brothel. Against his better judgement, he gets talked into the idea, only to find that it’s more than his boss that has objections to this bit of entrepreneurship. |

Is it rude to tell someone I just want a lazy night at home by myself?
I don’t know about other people, but sometimes I just want time to myself. I work in retail, which is sometimes Ok, lately I’ve been getting late shifts and I come home exhausted.
I have depression, which makes me tired and everything’s just too hard some days
It was just today I made an effort to go out with a friend for a few hours ( I met her about 1pm, and we looked at shops , had something to eat, went to some markets, got back about 6pm), which was me trying to be sociable, but then she wanted to know could she get us something for tea and come around for a few hours to my place?i just said I was feeling tired and wanted to just veg out at home, was that rude?
I hope I wasn’t rude, but just wanted some time to myself.
Do others know what I mean?
Maria, I don’t understand why you put lol- I mean , I know it means laugh out loud, but why is it funny?- or are you a child and think rude just means somethiing else?
It wasn’t rude but perhaps a little tactless. If you are tired then of course you have a right to relax and recover; but as your friend is making an effort to be sociable with you and if you value her friendship, just explain why you need to be on your own sometimes – being exhausted after work is a legitimate reason in anybody’s book! – don’t keep silent then suddenly force the issue because it will come over as rudeness however hard you try to say otherwise.

Sometimes, it’s absolutely necessary.

It’s not rude at all. Just because you got together earlier in the day does not mean that you have to spend all day with someone. In our society we are taught that it’s rude to decline an invitation if we have no previous engagement. For whatever reason "alone time" is not considered an appropriate use of our time if someone wants something from us. The fact of the matter is, though, we need to respect ourselves enough to use that all-powerful, taboo word "No". When you say no someone what you’re really doing is saying yes to yourself. If your friends can’t respect that you want time by yourself then they aren’t really your friends.

Of course, we all need a bit of time to ourselves.
You have a right to tell her if you are tired. Thank her for her kind thought, but you just need a quiet night by yourself. I think your friend is worried about your depression and doesn’t like the thought of you hiding out at home. Perhaps when you have a bit of energy on the weekend or holiday, you could make it up to her by meeting her for coffee, a drink or lunch somewhere. But level with her and tell her you like to keep your visits short as you don’t have a lot of energy.
Take care of yourself and try to find a balance here. Depression is a difficult thing to handle but I have always found that a good walk will elevate my spirits even when I think I am too exhausted to move. I hope you are getting some help for this condition.

If your worried about it, text her or call to let her know. ‘I didnt mean to be rude, I do enjoy your company, I just havn’t been feeling good and needed to rest.’
